Essential Objective Scoring

Advanced The objective has been mastered.  Your child completely understands this skill.
Proficient The objective has been mastered.
Progressing The objective was not mastered.  Your child will need to continue working on this skill and retake the objective test at another time. 
Beginning The objective was not mastered.  Your child has little understanding of this skill at this time.  Your child will continue working on this skill and take the objective test when he/she is better prepared.

The following skills will be assessed for your third grade student this year.

Math Language Arts Science Social Studies Health

Math

The students will communicate number sense concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.

*Concepts include place value, rounding, estimating, multiples of 5, 10, and 100, fractions, multiplication facts, adding and subtracting four-digit numbers, and problem solving.

The students will communicate geometric concepts and measurement concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.

*Concepts include symmetry, geometric shapes, perimeter, time, length, weight, and volume, and money.

Students will communicate algebraic concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.

*Concepts include patterns and symbolic representations of addition and subtraction.

Students will communicate data analysis/probability concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across the disciplines.

*Concepts include using bar graphs, describing data, and probability.

Language Arts

Use clear, coherent oral communication.
Produce a written response to express his or her own thoughts and ideas.
Write in the content areas.
Learn and apply knowledge of print, phonological awareness, structural analysis, fluency strategies, vocabulary skills, and comprehension strategies to construct meaning of grade level text.
Identify and use appropriate resources to locate information.

Students understand that Earth's surface is always changing.
Students understand that weather occurs in the atmosphere and is the interaction of many factors.
Students understand that sound and light are forms of energy.
Students understand the interactions of plants and animals that occur in a food chain.

Social Studies

Demonstrate the use of map keys and primary and intermediate compass directions.
Describe different aspects of a Native American culture.
Describe life for the early settlers of Jamestown.
Give examples of how our country's founders and events contributed to the founding of America.
Explain the different ways people can be responsible citizens.
Describe the interactions of consumers and producers.
Compare and contrast a U.S. community to another community.

 

Health

Understand how personal, community, and global choices impact lifelong health and wellness.
