Here's the poem that we learned this week.

We made snowman puppets to do with our poem.

Since the weather wasn't very wintery, we had to make our own cold.  Our classroom got a little noisy while we "Melted-An-Ice-Cube".

Did the ice melt fastest in our hands, in water, by going down our shirts, or one of the other ways?

Here are some samples...

...of our crystalized winter artwork.

We had a fun time with static electricity.  This balloon wouldn't let Mrs. Brockhaus get away.

The crazy balloon stuck to the wall.

Mrs. Brockhaus made a big mess of torn paper on the floor and made the "K" Kids clean it up.  It was taking a long time so she showed us a short-cut.

Mrs. Brockhaus had the balloon pick up all of the scraps.

Even the water liked the balloon!  If you look closely, you can see the stream of water is being pulled toward the balloon.

With all of the static electricity excitement in our class, we decided to test out some other electricity.  We were little scientists and made predictions (hypotheses) about what would happen when the wires connected with the + and- of the battery.

Our hypothesis was right!!  The light bulb lit up!  It wasn't very bright with one battery so we tried 2 and 3.  It got brighter each time.  4 batteries was too much power though.  We burned out our light bulb.

At center time, the "K" Kids discovered that they could make a lamp by putting a cup over the light bulb.

We read the book Tacky by Helen Lester and created our own "Tackys".  He was an odd little penguin in the book, but his friends found that he was a good bird to have around.

(Thanks to Mrs. Burlingame for sharing the pattern for Tacky.)

Here's one of our cute little "Tacky"s.
