Learning About Plants

Here's our seed center.

We observed and compared seeds.  We found that some are so tiny that

people and animals probably transplant them on their shoes and clothing without even  knowing it!

We are learning that plants need light, water, air, and soil to grow.  Here's our art project to demonstrate that.

Our seed with no water isn't growing at all.

Our seed that we are keeping in the drawer sprouted, but it isn't turning green.  The chloroplasts aren't activated.

Our seed with light and water is taking off.  It is trying to grow out of the sack that we are keeping it in.

Here are some plants from our "Garden".  Different plants grow at different rates and have different leaves.

Have you heard about our caterpillars?

We've had them for 1 week.

We've been measuring the caterpillars daily.  The black lines represent their length.  The "K" Kids said that they are also getting quite chubby!

We discussed the life cycle of our caterpillars.

We started our Farm Theme, too.  Here is our farm bulletin board/word wall.

We are learning the names of all of the farm animal families.  To do this we are reading books, watching videos, and writing a letter to a real farmer (Mrs. Brockhaus' Dad).
