Caterpillars/Butterflies

fjaril4

    Here's our caterpillar/butterfly progress

The caterpillars arrived Friday, April 13th.  The largest one was 11 millimeters.  We measured them daily.  By day 12 he was 44 millimeters!  That day we saw our first chrysalis start to form.

Here are the little critters on Day 1.

Here's our Butterfly Pavilion!  When our butterflies hatch, we can climb inside with them!

Here are 2 of our chrysalises inside of our Butterfly

Pavilion.

We're watching and studying each phase.

Finally!!  They hatched!

Here's one on our butterfly feeder.  The nectar is in the bottom.

Look how beautiful it is.  He likes Caitlin.

This butterfly is on Mrs. Brockhaus' real lei.  He likes it!

Here's a moth that we caught at recess.  When a moth lands, it has flat wings.  When a butterfly lands, it's wings are vertical.  The bottoms of their wings are brown to help them camouflage.

For some butterfly activities to do at home, click on the butterflies below.  Have fun!
