Map Skills

Exploring and Studying Maps...

Our house has its very own address.  We made houses and practiced our addresses this week.

Our Graph of the Week recorded the color of our house.  We found that most of us live in white houses.

We colored maps of our state.

We learned that maps give us a code or "Key" to know what direction we are going, and that water is blue on a map.

We are learning a song about the 50 states.  Here's a sample of the map that we painted.  As we were working, we talked about different states where our grandparents, cousins, or friends live and located these places on the map.

Throughout the week, we read Flat Stanley.  He is flat so his family mails him to a friend in a big envelope.  We made our own Stanleys and are going to mail them to family and friends around the world.  We hope our Stanleys return by May with information from lots of different places.

We also learned a song about the 7 continents and located land and water on the globe.
Ask your favorite "K" Kid to sing it for you!

Exploring and learning about magnets.  Magnets have a north and south pole, just like the earth!

After we explored with magnets, we recorded our information.
A chair is magnetic, and a map is not.

Here's a sample of our Henrietta the Hexagon.  We made these fun shape characters to help us remember the names of these shapes.

Do you like our "Pete the Perfect Pentagon"?
