Valentines & Dental Health

Here we are getting ready for our Valentine Party.

Our buddies helped us decorate our Valentine mailboxes.!

Now we can fill our boxes!

One of our projects for Dental Health was seeing what dark soda will do to our teeth.  We put one egg in water and two eggs in soda.

We made some hypotheses about what might happen to the eggs in soda.  Some of our predictions were...The egg will

...turn brown or black.
... crack open.
...get rotten and smell bad.
...get mushy and sloppy.
...get bigger.
...disappear.

The next morning, they eggs had turned brown.  One of our predictions was correct!

Since the eggs looked brown and yucky (like we would never want our teeth to be), we decided to brush them and see which tooth paste worked best.

We found that 'Spongebob' toothpaste and Colgate Total made the brown eggs the brightest, but they still didn't get as white as the egg that had only been in water.

We had a dentist, Dr. Frill, visit our class.  He used some huge teeth and a giant toothbrush to teach us how to brush our teeth.  Then he had us practice brushing.  To test our brushing skills, we first dyed the plaque on our teeth pink with disclosing tablets.

Then we all brushed our teeth.

We remembered to brush top, bottom, and sides.  We also brushed our tongues because germs like to hide there.

Finally Dr. Frill checked our brushing.  He used a mirror to show us places that we need to brush better if we didn't get rid of all of the pink spots.  Thanks, Dr. Frill!
