Monkeying Around

We read Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina.  Then we each made a 'cap' of our favorite color and acted out the story...

...And the Academy Award goes to Mrs. Moneymaker for her role as the peddler in "Caps for Sale"!!--The peddler carried all of her caps on her head.

She couldn't sell any caps so she took a nap.  While the peddler was resting, a bunch of little monkeys took her caps.

...And best supporting actor/actress awards go to the "K" Kids for their roles as monkeys!-- (Here are a few of our little monkeys.)

The peddler had to trick the monkeys into giving his caps back.  He threw his checkered cap down so the monkeys threw their caps down, too.  The peddler gathered up his hats, put them back on his head, and headed off down the road.

After we read and acted out the story, we illustrated the beginning, middle, and end of the story and graphed our caps by color.  Which color had the most?  The least?  Were there any that were equal?  How many more red than blue?

Then we made pictures of the 'Five Little Monkeys' sitting in a tree.  Do you see Mr. Alligator hiding in the grass?

We read Naughty Little Monkeys...

...and made our own little monkeys.  Ours weren't naughty, of course!
