Here's the song the
we learned about plant parts. We sang it to the tune of "Head,
Shoulders, Knees, and Toes". |

We started off by learning about
seeds. We looked at several different kinds of seeds and compared
their size, shape, and color.

We soaked bean seeds over night and
then took them apart. When we took off the seed coat, we found the sprout
that would become the root. We could also see the leaves. They
were very tiny and white. Here's a recording of what we observed. |
.JPG) We
read that seeds are planted by wind, water, animals, and even people when
they stick to our clothes. We tried it, and the seeds did stick to
our clothes! |
We planted bean seeds in our little
green houses to see if we could get them to sprout. We saw the roots
sprouting out in just one day! |

The next day, we learned about stems.
We read that stems act as straws and suck water and nutrients to the
leaves. We thought we'd test it out. We put white flowers into
different colors of food coloring. We predicted that the flowers
would turn colors, but it would take a couple of days. |

Here's one of our flowers after 2
days. You can't see it very good, but the edges of the flower have
turned yellow. The yellow and red colors showed up the best.

We planted seeds in
individual cups to take home, and we planted a class garden. Someone
had to water the garden each day because plants need light, water, air,
and soil to grow. |

Our lettuce is starting to sprout.
Which plant will be next? |

Here's our picture
of a plant. We used straws for the stem and real seeds inside of the
flower. The the parts of the flower, too. |

After we created our
plants, we pollinated them with powder and had our class bee buzz through
the class. He was very friendly and didn't sting anyone. |

Mrs. Brockhaus let us take apart
flowers to see the different parts. We saw the petals and pollen on
some of them. |

We made an art project to show how
seeds grow with light, water, and air. As you unfold the project,
the plants grow, and grow, and grow! |
