Egg Fun

Here are some of our 'eggs'ellent activites...

To begin our first eggs-periment, we observed our egg was white, shiny, hard, bumpy, big, and clean.  It looked like a tooth with no cracks and sounded hard then you tapped on it.

We put the egg in vinegar and observed.  The vinegar was clear, like water and it had bubbles around the egg.  At first, the egg sunk to the bottom of the jar.  After a little while, it started to float and move around the cup.  We could even hear it.  It sounded like soda right after you pour it.  There was a fizzy sound.  It also smelled like when you dye Easter eggs.

After a couple of days, the egg was squishy, yellowish, fuzzy  or soapy looking.  When Mrs. Brockhaus picked it up and dropped it, it bounced!  The shell had disappeared.  All that was left was the skin under the shell.  We talked about how a chemical reaction had taken all of the calcium away.

Here's our little yellow duck.  He was really funny because when we flipped him over, he became a little Easter bunny!

Wednesday, we cooked eggs of several different styles and compared their differences.  Here's a graph of our favorite kinds.

After reading Green Eggs and Ham, we made green eggs.  Most of us thought that they were delicious.

Tuesday, we had a 'grueling' math lesson.  We graphed jelly beans by their color.  Then we tallied the results.  The most challenging part was having to eat the jelly beans after graphing them!

Wednesday, we did double-duty...a math lesson while cleaning our tables.  We wrote addition facts in shaving cream.

Chick-Hatching News and Updates

We have been turning our eggs 2-3 times every day.  The temperature is 100 degrees in their incubator.  They are due to hatch on April 15th.  If you want to learn more about the growth and development of our chicks inside of the eggs, click on the egg below.
