Colors/Light

We talked about light this week. We found that sound travels in waves and can go around thing.  Light only travels in a straight line.   It can go through some things like water, plastic, and wax paper, but not paper, cardboard, or mirrors.

We put food coloring in water.  We had only the primary colors.  Ask your favorite "K" Kid how we created orange, purple, and green.

Can you guess what we are going to make with these ingredients?

Mrs. Brockhaus calls it Rainbow Stew, but it doesn't look much like a rainbow yet!?

After you add the food coloring, it looked a little more like a rainbow.

Want to try it at home...
1 cup corn starch
1/3 cup sugar
4 cups water
Stir continuously while heating over medium heat until thick.  Divide into 3 parts.  Add primary colors of food coloring.

These beautiful rainbows are decorating our classroom.

We graphed our favorite color.  Which colors are equal?  How many more red than yellow?  How many less green than blue?

We used a prism to bend light...

to make a rainbow on the ceiling of our classroom.  In nature, the light comes from the sun and the raindrops are the prism.
