Here's the song the
we learned about plant parts. We sang it to the tune of "Head,
Shoulders, Knees, and Toes". |
|

We learned that celery is really the
stem of a plant. We put the celery in red water to see what would
happen...
|

In one day, it turned red! We
could especially see the red coloring on the tips of the leaves (at the
end of the veins). |
 We put white
carnations in colored water. If our theory of water traveling up the
stem is correct, they should turn colors. |

We were right! They did change
colors. Some were darker than others, but we could see traces of
color on all of them except the one in plain water. |

The red coloring worked the best. |
|

We planted bean seeds in a
'greenhouse'. So far, we have a lot of condensation and one small
sprout. Check back next week to see the results. |

We soaked seeds in water overnight and
then took them apart. We took off the seed coat and found the sprout
that would become the root. We could also see the leaves. They
were very tiny and white.
|
|

We planted seeds in
different conditions. We are going to record what happens to each
seed. |

This is our book for
the seeds with no light. |
|

This is our book of
seeds with no water. |

This is our book of
seeds with light and water. Students were concerned that it wouldn't
grow because we didn't have any real dirt just paper towels. They
finally sprouted on day 4. |

Here we are analyzing and studying
different kinds of seeds. The come in a lot of different sizes and
shapes. |

Mrs. Brockhaus let us take apart
flowers to see the different parts. We saw the petals and pollen on
some of them. |

Here's a flower with all of the petals
removed. It looked like a little sponge. |

We made an art project to show how
seeds grow with light, water, and air. As you unfold the project,
the plants grow, and grow, and grow! |

Here's our class garden. All of
our plants are growing except the nasturtium seeds. |

The morning glory plants are bending
over toward the sun in the window. |

Ms. Townsend is helping the bee
'pollinate' our flowers. |

We created a flower
and labeled the different parts. Do you see the pollen? |
