Fire Safety

We spent the week learning how to be safe in case we are ever involved in a fire.  Some things we practiced at school, but some things really need to be discussed and practiced at home.  For homework this weekend...practice your family's fire drill plan, set up a place to meet when everyone gets out of the house,  find the 2 ways out of every room, practice "stop, drop, and roll", ask your favorite "K" Kid how to move in a smoke-filled room and how to test if a door has fire on the other side, test the smoke detectors, and enjoy the pictures of our fire safety activities...

Oh, no!! A house is on fire call 911!

First, we read books about fire safety.

Next, we brainstormed the things that we would need for our fire safety center.

Here we are making our oxygen tanks.

Making a fire extinguisher is fun!

We put real water in our fire hydrant!

Here's our completed fire hydrant.

Here come the fire fighters...

...It's a good thing that they're prepared.  Look at the house on fire with all of the flames and smoke.  There are people in the windows screaming for help!

The fire fighters are well-equipped with hoses (and water), the jaws of life, axes, flashlights, and walkie-talkies.

The health office called with an emergency.  We were more than willing to help!

Oh, no!  Mrs. Senff liked our fire truck so much that she was going to drive it into her classroom!
