Our Summer with Eric Carle Stories...

Eric Carle's stories were the inspiration of our summer school projects.  Because his stories
have simple, repetitive text, young children can easily read them on their own.  His stories also
contain many different sequences that kindergartners need to learn.  (days of the week, months
of the year, times of day, numbers, etc.)  We hope that you enjoy seeing what we made as much as
we enjoyed creating these projects and sharing them with you.  If you want to learn more about
Eric Carle and his stories, click on the caterpillar ...

Today Is Monday

On our first day of summer school, we read Today is Monday.  We talked about the days of the week and practiced
our cutting skills by cutting out all kinds of food pictures.  This fold-out book is our version of the Eric Carle's story.

The Very Busy Spider

Mrs. Brockhaus made the spider, and the "K" Kids created the insects to go in the web.

At the end of The Very Busy Spider, and owl sees a beautiful web sparkling in the night.  We marble painted and used a little glitter to make our sparkling webs.

The Very Lonely Firefly

We made our very own fireflies.  They even light up on our bulletin board!

The Mixed-Up Chameleon

Eric Carle went to different schools to ask children for ideas when he was writing The Mixed-Up Chameleon.  Here's our version.  We all made one parts and put them together to create this cute character.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We made a giant class caterpillar.  Each one of us made one C.  They we connected them all to make our caterpillar.  We also painted individual caterpillars using egg cartons and made beautiful butterflies.

The Grouchy Ladybug

Our ladybugs weren't all grouchy.  Some of us made them friendly.  Their wing covers open and close so that they can fly.

The Honeybee and the Robber

We made our own honeybees.  Some of them were happy, and some were angry at
the robber.  Ask your favorite "K" Kid about the robber in the story.
