Reading Language Arts
First Grade Reading Language Arts Essential Objectives
 

  1. The student uses clear, coherent oral communication.
  2. The student produces a written response to express his or her own thoughts and ideas.
  3. The student spells using a variety of word study strategies at grade-level.
  4. The student demonstrates comprehension of grade-level text.
  5. The student decodes a grade level passage with accuracy and automaticity.
  6. The student reads a practiced grade-level text fluently (with expression, smoothness and pacing).
  7. The student demonstrates phonological awareness.

 

Math
First Grade Math Essential Objectives
 

  1. The student will construct and describe plane shapes from three-dimensional objects.
  2. The student will identify, write, and order numbers.
  3. The student will skip count in a variety of ways.
  4. The student will identify concepts of more and less.
  5. The student will identify coins and their value and count coins.
  6. The student will read an analog and digital clock.
  7. The student will read a calendar.
  8. The student will interpret a graph and a chart.
  9. The student will measure length and or height.
  10. The student will apply addition and subtraction strategies to solve problems.

 

Science
First Grade Science Essential Objectives
 

  1. The student will communicate observations made during a scientific investigation throughout the school year.
  2. The student will identify parts of plants and their functions.
  3. The student will demonstrate an understanding of the composition of the earth.
  4. The student will measure and record changes that occur in the weather.
  5. The student will demonstrate an understanding of matter.


Social Studies
First Grade Social Studies Essential Objectives
 

  1. The student will demonstrate the relationship among homes, communities, states, countries, and Earth. 
  2. The student will recognize individuals who have contributed to the development of our country. 
  3. The student will recognize the ways in which people are similar and different. 
  4. The student will recognize the difference between rules and laws. 
  5. The student will distinguish between the needs and wants of people.
