South Carolina

 

Howdy Y'all from Pelzer, South Carolina!

We live in the Piedmont region, which  is in the northwest part of South Carolina. Fork Shoals School is an International Baccalaureate school and has about 700 students in grades K-5. We live near the city of Greenville, which has the beautiful waterfalls. We are famous for our peaches. Our state is called the "Palmetto State". Our state bird is the "Carolina Wren". Our state animal is the "white-tailed deer". You can visit Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island - famous vacation spots. We have the four seasons, but it rarely snows here. Do you know why our state flag has a palmetto tree on it? That's because during the Revolutionary War, the British warship was shooting cannons on our fort made out of palmetto logs. Since the palmetto logs were spongy, the cannons just got stuck in the logs, thus our fort was saved and we won the battle!
