History:      
  • founded in 1880
  • Almost only state capital that has no road leading to it.  (You can only get there by boat or airplane.  Honolulu is the other; you have to get there by boat or by airplane.)
  • Juneau area was a favorite fishing spot for the Tlingit Native-Americans
  • 1880 gold was found near Juneau (the "Alaskan Gold Rush" began.  Many gold miners came to the area to try to find gold and become rich.)
