Penguin Quest

Introduction:

You have been selected to be part of a committee of scientists to choose the kinds of penguins for the new city penguin exhibit at the zoo.  You must decide on the kinds of penguins to purchase.

Task:

You will learn as much as you can about two kinds penguins, keep a record of what you found out about each one, and then write a short report about which of the two you think are best. Your report should help others decide which kind is best for your zoo.

Conclusion:

You have learned much about two kinds of penguins.  This will allow you to be able to compare those two and make an informed decision about which is best.  Then, you listened to other members of the committee and came to a decision about which of the four would be best for your zoo. You can now recommend the best kind to purchase.

Your committee chairperson (your teacher) will give you points in the following way:

Information 1 point: little information 2 points: Adequate information 3 points: excellent information
Spelling 1 point: Report had several misspelled words 2 points: Report had only two misspelled words. 3 Points: Report had 1 or less misspelled words.
Grammar and Sentence Structure 1 point: Report had several grammar or punctuation errors. 2 points: Report had only two grammar or punctuation errors. 3 points: Report had 1 or less grammar or structure errors.
