Lesson Plan

Why you need to evaluate Websites

There are humongous numbers of new websites entering the Web daily.  Some are very reliable and some are extremely questionable.  You need to learn to try to decide which ones are good and which ones to avoid.  The following lessons should help you with this task.

What you will do

  • spend time looking at some questionable websites and some good ones.

  • learn some simple ways to begin to weed out those that are not really useful by simply reading the website address.

  • use a Website Evaluation Checklist to help begin your learning process.

Web Sites to Evaluate Using Checklist

Below you will find several websites to use for this activity.  Everyone will use site number 1, and you may choose one of the other sites (2-5) to use to compare with site number 1.  Please use the checklist on both sites.  When you are finished, the class can discuss your findings.
