ABBOTT & FENNER SCHOLARSHIPAward: $1,000 Deadline: June 15, 2012Criteria: This is really an essay contest open to a wide range of students aged 16 to 30 in high school or college. It simply asks you to write an essay (500 to 1,000 words) about their annual topic and e-mail that essay to them. ACTUARIAL FOUNDATION DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPCriteria: This scholarship is offered to minority students interested in actuarial science. AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY SCHOLARS PROGRAMCriteria: Seniors with African American, Hispanic/Latino, or Native American heritage can apply if they plan to pursue a four-year degree in the chemical sciences or a two-year degree in chemical technology. Your application is simply contact information that can only be submitted using the AFSA web site www.afsascholarship.org as specified in their instructions. AMERICAN LEGION LEGACY SCHOLARSHIPAward: Varies up to cost of education Deadline: April 15, 2012 Criteria: This scholarship is offered to students who had a parent who died on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. The student must enroll as a full-time student at an undergraduate college or university. This is a one-year award, but the student may reapply each year. Considers academic achievement, financial need, work experience, school and community activities, educational goals, and leadership. AMERICORPS EDUCATION AWARDSAward: up to $5,550 per year of service Deadline: Volunteer for AmeriCorps anytime online Criteria: Students who complete a volunteer program with AmeriCorps, which would include up to 10 months of full-time service that also pays a stipend, would be eligible for an education award relative to the amount of service performed. ARMED FORCES COMMUNICATIONS & ELECTRONICS ASSOCIATION (AFCEA) SCHOLARSHIPS Award: $1,000 or more Deadline April 5, 2011 Criteria: This organization has a set of scholarships, including one specifically for high school seniors, offered to students studying technical areas such as mathematics, computer science, telecommunications, physics, computer engineering, or electrical engineering. You can continue to apply each spring during your college years. Considers scholastic performance, financial need, recommendations, and community or organizational involvement. Requires that you apply online at www.afcea-omaha.org and have two recommendations submitted at the same site.

ASSOCIATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS: OMAHA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP Award: up to $1,000 Deadline: March 18, 2011 Criteria: Available to students who plan to study in eastern Nebraska or Western Iowa to prepare for a career in Information Systems, or IT related fields. Considers academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, leadership, and your essay on this year’s topic. Need two recommendations on Form B. AXA ACHIEVEMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: These scholarships will go to students in the Lincoln/Omaha region who are U.S. citizens or legal residents and who plan to attend a two-year or four-year College or University. Primary consideration is an outstanding non-academic achievement in an activity at school, in the community, or in the workplace. Also considers other extracurricular activities and academic record. Finalists will be asked for a transcript and a recommendation from an adult professional who can attest to their achievement. BARRIENTOS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS Award: $500 to $1,000 Deadline: May 1, 2012 Criteria: Latino students can apply for one of five scholarships, including one category for those interested in the arts (music, visual arts, theater, or dance), another for students interested in a medical career (nursing, therapy, research, or other medical practice), one for education careers (teacher, counselor, or administrator), another for Business (entrepreneurship, management, marketing, human relations, or finance), and a general category for all others. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5/5.0 GPA and plan to study at least part-time at a community college, university, technical or vocational school in Nebraska or the greater Omaha Metropolitan area (this includes Council Bluffs schools). BATTALION CHIEF HERBERT L. DAVIS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: Underprivileged (African-American and low income) students who plan to attend any postsecondary educational institution or training in any area of study can apply. The student must have a minimum 3.5/5.0 GPA; participation in school, community, or church activities; and financial need. Requires an essay, photo, transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.
BECKY WHEELER SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: This scholarship is offered to one Bellevue East Cheerleader and one Bellevedette in memory of their former coach, who passed away recently. The senior must plan to attend higher education. Considers academic achievement, community activities, employment, and honors or awards. Requires an essay, transcripts, and one letter of recommendation.
* BELLEVUE EAGLES CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Award: $1,000 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East and West Senior. Selection based on academic success, participation in extracurricular activities, work experience, and citizenship.
* BELLEVUE EAST BAND BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Award: TBD Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East Senior who is an active participant and who has shown leadership in band activities.
* BELLEVUE EAST CHESS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Award: $100 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to Bellevue East Seniors who are active members of the chess club. Selection is based on participation in meetings, the chess league, tournaments, fund raising, and rated games, as well as leadership within the club. The student must be planning to pursue higher education after graduating in the spring.
Award: $250 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to seniors who have attended BEHS at least the entire school year and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution after graduation. Considers academic achievement, extracurricular activities, financial need, and qualities such as leadership and service.
* BELLEVUE EAST SCHOLAR/ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP Award: TBD Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to one male and one female Bellevue East Senior who are athletes and top-notch scholars. The student must rank in the top 25% of the class and must have participated in 10 or more sport seasons during grades 9 - 12.

* BELLEVUE EAST VOCAL BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Award: $500 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East Chorus member who plans to continue participating in music in college, but is not required to major or minor in music. The applicant must be a senior, active in choir, and in good standing. Selection based on academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and future goals.
* BELLEVUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION Award: $500 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: This organization represents the Bellevue Public Schools teachers and offers a scholarship to a Bellevue East and West student who ranks in the top half of the class. Activities and leadership positions are also criteria. You do not have to major in education.
* BELLEVUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION DEPENDENTS’ SCHOLARSHIP Award: $500 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: The Bellevue Education Association offers this scholarship to the son or daughter of a BEA member. If one of your parents is a teacher in the Bellevue School District and belongs to the BEA you can apply for this scholarship.
* BELLEVUE JAYCEES COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP Award: $650 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: The Bellevue Jaycees funded this scholarship to recognize a Bellevue East and West senior who actively participated in community oriented projects on their own or through active membership in community service organizations. Financial need will also be considered in selecting the winners. The senior must enroll in a college or vocational school to collect the award.
Award: $300 (renewable once) Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to Bellevue East and West Seniors who have competed for at least one year in a high school sport. All applicants must have also participated in BJSA sports and include a short statement on one 8 ½” X 11” sheet of paper that lists their activities with BJSA and in high school sports. Students must be of good character and standing in the high school community with a GPA of 3.0/5.0 or higher and plan to attend a vocational school, community college, or four-year college.

* BELLEVUE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIP Award: $1,500 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: This is a scholarship for a Bellevue West and East Senior who is a member of St. Mary’s Parish, St. Matthew’s Parish, or the Offutt Catholic Community and who plans to attend a Catholic college or university. Does not consider financial need.
* BELLEVUE MAYOR’S DRUG COMMISSION SCHOLARSHIPAward: $500 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to one Bellevue East and one Bellevue West Senior who is planning to attend a 2- or 4-year degree program and demonstrates financial need. This scholarship is open to any student who has always been drug/alcohol free or who has overcome drug/alcohol use. In order to be considered, applicants must include an essay on a separate sheet of paper with a minimum of 250 words explaining the impact the statement “I will be drug free” has had in his or her life.
* BELLEVUE/OFFUTT KIWANIS SCHOLARSHIPAward: $1,000 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to Bellevue East and West Senior who plans to attend college or a vocational school. Student must rank in the top half of the class with an ACT composite score between 17 and 24 (no higher).
* BELLEVUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS Award: $1,500 Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: Offered to Bellevue East and West Seniors and can be used at the college or vocational school of your choice. Selection is based on academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and a positive attitude toward school.
* BELLEVUE ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Award: Varies Deadline: February 17, 2012 Criteria: This is a scholarship for a Bellevue East and West Senior who plans to attend college or a vocational school in Nebraska. All eligible students are encouraged to apply. Considers academic performance with an ACT score ranging from 19 to 26 and involvement in activities.

Criteria: Offered to high school students who demonstrate commitment to and involvement in volunteer community service or work experience. You must also plan to enroll full time in an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school in the US or Puerto Rico in the fall semester following graduation. BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU SCOTT MECHAM STUDENT OF INTERGRITY AWARDS Award: $2,000 Deadline: March 9, 2012 Criteria: This is offered to juniors and seniors who personify the values, leadership, and integrity shown by Mr. Mecham, with emphasis on ethical behavior, community service, academic accomplishments, humility, courage, compassion, and respect. The student must plan to continue their education after high school and be nominated by a high school principal, teacher, guidance counselor, community, or religious leader. Sponsorship students must agree to work for NMC Caterpillar for a minimum of two years following graduation. ULMAN CANCER FUND FOR YOUNG ADULTS SCHOLARSHIPSAward: $2,500 Deadline: April 1, 2011 Criteria: Several different scholarships are offered to students who either have had cancer or who have parents who either have cancer or were lost to cancer. Two of the awards are open to students outside of Maryland, Washington DC, or Virginia, and one of those is specifically for nursing students.
