DESCRIPTIONS OF COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Note: Money from these scholarships must be used to pay for education after high school.
Instructions: Read each scholarship description carefully. Select the scholarships that best fit your experience or background. Disregard any scholarships that do not relate to you in any way. Once you have picked out those scholarships for which you are qualified, transfer your selections to the Bellevue East High School Community Scholarship Selection Sheet.
AIR FORCE ASSOCIATION JAMES M. KECK JROTC SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,000
Criteria: Offered to a JROTC student by the Air Force Association, AK-SAR-BEN Chapter.
Award: $500
Criteria: This scholarship is provided by a sorority of Bellevue teachers for a Bellevue East and West Senior (male or female) planning to major in education and enter the teaching profession. The student must have a 3.0/5.0 GPA, score a 19 on the ACT, and demonstrate leadership.
Award: $500
Criteria: This will be offered to two students graduating from a Sarpy County high school. That student must plan to attend a 2- or 4-year degree program starting in the fall. Requires a minimum 4.0/5.0 GPA to apply.
Award: $250
Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East or West Senior who is a son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of a veteran or current active duty military member. Must be planning to attend college or technical school. Considers academic records, extracurricular activities and volunteer support to the community. Requires evidence of the parent's or grandparent's military service (include a copy of their DD Form 214, Military ID, or Active Duty Orders).
Award: $1,000
Criteria: Offered to any senior. Selection based on academic success, participation in extracurricular activities, work experience, and citizenship.
BELLEVUE EAST BAND SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $500
Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East senior who is an active participant and who has shown leadership in band activities.
BELLEVUE EAST CHESS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Varies from $100 to $250
Criteria: Offered to Bellevue East Seniors who are active members of the chess club. Selection is based on participation in meetings, the chess league, tournaments, fund raising, and rated games, as well as leadership within the club. The student must be planning to pursue higher education after graduating in the spring.
BELLEVUE EAST PTSA SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $250
Criteria: Offered to seniors who have attended BEHS at least the entire school year and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution after graduation. Considers academic achievement, extracurricular activities, financial need, and qualities such as leadership and service.
BELLEVUE EAST SCHOLAR/ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP
Award: TBD
Criteria: Offered to one male and one female senior who are athletes and top-notch scholars. The student must rank in the top 25% of the class and must have participated in 10 or more sport seasons during grades 9 - 12.
BELLEVUE EAST VOCAL BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $500
Criteria: Offered to a chorus member who plans to continue participating in music in college, but is not required to major or minor in music. The applicant must be a senior, active in choir, and in good standing. Selection based on academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and future goals.
BELLEVUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $500
Criteria: This organization represents the Bellevue Public Schools teachers and offers a scholarship to a student who ranks in the top half of the class. Activities and leadership positions are also criteria. You do not have to major in education.
BELLEVUE EDUCATION ASSOC. DEPENDENTS’ SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $500
Criteria: The Bellevue Education Association offers this scholarship to the son or daughter of a BEA member. If one of your parents is a teacher in the Bellevue School District and belongs to the BEA you can apply for this scholarship.
BELLEVUE JAYCEES COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $650
Criteria: The Bellevue Jaycees funded this scholarship to recognize a Bellevue East and West senior who actively participated in community oriented projects on their own or through active membership in community service organizations. Financial need will also be considered in selecting the winners. The senior must enroll in a college or vocational school to collect the award.
BELLEVUE JUNIOR SPORTS ASSOCIATION
SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $300 (renewable once)
Criteria: Offered to Bellevue East and West Seniors who have competed for at least one year in a high school sport. All applicants must have also participated in BJSA sports and include a short statement on one 8 ½” X 11” sheet of paper that lists their activities with BJSA and in high school sports. Students must be of good character and standing in the high school community with a GPA of 3.0/5.0 or higher and plan to attend a vocational school, community college, or four-year college.
BELLEVUE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,500
Criteria: This is a scholarship for a senior who is a member of St. Mary’s Parish, St. Matthew’s Parish, or the Offutt Catholic Community and who plans to attend a Catholic college or university. Does not consider financial need.
Criteria: Offered to a senior who plans to attend college or a vocational school. Selection is based on academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities, work experience and future goals.
BELLEVUE POLICE OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Varies
Criteria: This is offered to one Bellevue East or West senior and can be used at the college or vocational school of your choice. Considers academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and a positive attitude toward school. Student must rank in the top half of the class with an ACT composite score between 17 and 24 (no higher).
BELLEVUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS SCHOLARSHIPS
Award: $1,500
Criteria: Offered to seniors and can be used at the college or vocational school of your choice. Selection is based on academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and a positive attitude toward school.
BELLEVUE ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,000 to $2,000
Criteria: This is a scholarship for a senior who plans to attend college or a vocational school in Nebraska. All eligible students are encouraged to apply. Considers academic performance with an ACT score ranging from 19 to 26 and involvement in activities.
Award: $250
Criteria: Offered to one Bellevue East and one Bellevue West senior. The student must plan to study either Family and Consumer Science Education or Culinary Arts at a two- or four-year college or university.
BETZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTA SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $100
Criteria: Offered to two Bellevue East or West seniors who attended Betz Elementary School for at least THREE years. This scholarship may be used for college or a vocational school.
Criteria: Offered to a senior Chieftain enrolled in a marketing class and actively involved in both DECA and the “Trading Post.” The student must enroll in a 2-year or 4-year college.
CHIEFTAIN FBLA SCHOLARSHIP
DELTA KAPPA GAMMA: ALPHA IOTA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $200
Criteria: Offered to one Bellevue East or West senior who displays high moral character, values, and citizenship. Student must also rank in the top 30% of the class and plan a career in teaching.
EASTERN STAR SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $200
Criteria: Offered a senior who demonstrates good citizenship and high moral character. This award is granted without regard to scholastic standing or parental finances.
Award: $250
Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East and Bellevue West senior who attended Fairview Elementary at least one year and plans to attend a 2- or 4-year college or university.
GREAT WESTERN BANK SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $300
Award: $1,000
Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East and Bellevue West senior in memory of James Houghton. Considers academic ability, extracurricular activities, work experience, attendance and good citizenship. Requires a 4.0/5.0 GPA, clear career goals, and the desire to study at a public university, college, or community college in Nebraska. To be considered for this award, the student must include a separate page stating that they have a need for scholarship assistance to enable them to attend college.
Award: $500
Criteria: This award is offered to a Bellevue East and West senior who previously attended Leonard Lawrence Elementary School for at least two years. The student must be planning to attend a college or vocational school in the fall.
METROPOLITAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE (YEAR) BOARD OF GOVERNORS: GRADUATING SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Half Tuition
Criteria: Offered to Bellevue East and West Seniors who are accepted for admission to Metro Community College. Requires a minimum 3.5/5.0 GPA or rank in the top third of the senior class with demonstrated community service and/or extracurricular activity during high school.
METROPOLITAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Full Tuition
Criteria: Offered to Bellevue East and West Seniors who are accepted for admission to Metro Community College. Requires a minimum 4.25/5.0 GPA or rank in the top ten percent of the senior class with demonstrated community service and/or extracurricular activity during high school.
MID CITY BANK EDUCATOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,000
Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East and West Senior who plans to major in education at a 4-year college or university.
MID CITY BANK BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,000
Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East and West Senior who plans to graduate from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a business related field.
MID CITY BANK MOST IMPROVED VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,000
Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East and West Senior who plans to attend a community college or vocational school. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has shown improvement in attitude and grades from 9th grade until now.
MILITARY IMPACTED SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,000
Criteria: This scholarship is for a senior who is a military dependent (active duty or retired). Selection based on activities and leadership. Must rank in top half of the class.
PAULA ANTICOLLI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (UNL)
Award: Varies
Criteria: Offered to one female Bellevue East or West Senior who plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and who participated in sports in high school.
Award: $500
Criteria: Offered in the memory of a former teacher to a Bellevue East senior with special consideration to scholar-athletes who either plan to participate in intercollegiate athletics and/or pursue a career in education. The minimum GPA required is 4.5 on our 5.0 scale. To be considered, the student must provide an extra essay describing their contributions to Bellevue East and the Bellevue community. The student must also provide a second letter of recommendation from any Head Coach at Bellevue East in addition to the normal teacher recommendation.
Criteria: Will be awarded to a senior JROTC student.
Criteria: In memory of a 1998 Bellevue East graduate who gave his life as an Army soldier in Baghdad, Iraq May 18, 2006, this scholarship is offered to a Bellevue East and Bellevue West senior who will attend any post-secondary institution. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who is not in the top half of the class, but who participated in community service and has been a good citizen at home, at school, and in the community.
VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS POST 10727 SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $250
Criteria: Offered to a Bellevue East and West Senior who is a son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of a veteran or current active duty military member. Must be planning to pursue a degree at a 2- or 4-year college or university in Nebraska. Requires evidence of the parent's or grandparent's military service (include a copy of their DD Form 214, Military ID, or Active Duty Orders).
VETERAN’S SUPPORT ASSOCIATION JROTC SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $750
Criteria: Offered to JROTC members who will enroll in an ROTC program at a college or university.
WAKE ROBIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
Award: up to $ 500
Criteria: The Wake Robin PTA is offering a scholarship to one Bellevue East or West student who attended Wake Robin Elementary School for at least FOUR years. Requires rank in the top half of the class and an ACT score of 20 or better. This may be used for college or a vocational school.
