Motion Lesson

This page is designed as a quick reference for students to access some of the sites we will use for the Newton's Laws of Motion & Skateboarding Lesson!

Scientific Skateboarding: A Webquest

What in the world do Sir Issac Newton and skateboarding have in common?  Newton certainly did not spend his days on a half pipe in the backyard practicing his McTwists, but he did create rules for any object that moves, called Newton's Laws of Motion. Your Job is to figure out how that relates to the modern sport of skateboarding.

TASK

You are going to create a PowerPoint presentation that explains three things

1) Your understanding of Newton's three laws

2) Relate those three laws to a trick found on the Exploratorium website. Be sure to put the explanation in your own words.

3) Find a trick NOT on the Exploratorium website and do your best to explain how the laws of motion apply to that trick's success.

------------------

Process

For the next four class periods you need to spend time researching and creating your PowerPoint slides depicting the three tasks.  This presentation should include a title page, pictures, and clear explanations.

On the fifth day, you will present your explanations and project to the class.
