Hi there! This is Destiny, Ameilia, and Josh with you on the Fairview Elementary School Firebird Website and we’re going to tell you about what is going on during this past week in the fourth grade class of Mr. Sims
In Math we learning about giving back change and we took the Pretest for Chapter 3. Chapter 3 involves basic multiplication facts.
In Social Studies we are wrapping up the unit on the Northeast region. We had a test over this region last Friday and we are pretty sure everyone did really well on it.
In grammar we are learning about compound subjects and predicates.
In Science we are studying Simple Machines. The 6 Simple Machines are the lever, pulley, wedge, wheel and axle, inclined plane, and screw. Simple Machines are everywhere, even if you don’t know it! Some examples of simple machines include pop tabs, paper cutters, tape dispensers, wheelbarrows, anything with a blade, any lid the screws on, and any wheel.
This week in reading we read a folktale called The Emperor and the Kite. It took place in Ancient China and it is about an emperor not caring for and neglecting his fourth daughter. Also in reading we are all working on our first book projects. They are due on October 17th and we each have to read a novel and present a project to the class on it.
We are making Wonder-full posters for display in the hallways. They involve our thoughts and things that we wonder about. We have to finish it in one week! We have a lot of work to do in one week!
Mrs. Morton visits us on every Day 1! She just introduced I messages to all of us. “I messages” are where you tell someone about what they did or didn’t do then you write how you felt and what you need. For example, “I or We felt mad or sad when you… Because…I Need …” And just a little tip we are doing a reading project or presentation. It’s going to be great!
So, that’s what we did this week. Tune in next week for a typical week in fourth grade.
