In class we do a lot of fun activities, but sometimes we have to be serious about things.
In social studies we have been learning about the northeast region and how the Indians and colonists came to be. We are also learning about Native Americans and how they lived – the food they ate and how they traded. We also have been studying the Northeast region. We learned that Pocahontas went to England and learned new facts about the Northeast states. Also, we are memorizing the states and capitals in the NE Region. They are:
Maine --- Augusta
Vermont --- Montpelier
New Hampshire --- Concord
Massachusetts ---- Boston
Connecticut --- Hartford
Rhode Island --- Providence
New York --- Albany
Pennsylvania --- Harrisburg
New Jersey --- Trenton
Delaware --- Dover
In language arts we have been talking about simple subject and predicates and complete subjects and predicates. For instance:
The whole world came to here the president speak.
'World' is the simple subject and 'The whole world' is the complete subject.
In math we are getting taught how to add three digit numbers with regrouping, and estimating. Also, we have been learning when it is better to estimate. Here are some examples:
538 rounds down to 500
256 rounds up to 300
We have also been learning how to add and subtract money. The EO in Math this unit is on using money to count back change.
In science we have been doing many fun activities because our teacher is 'The Science Guy'. We just finished a section on force and motion and wrapped up by playing a Jeopardy game. Right now, we are studying Simple Machines. An example would be if you are one a teeter-totter and you are going up and down that is a lever. When this unit is finished there will be an EO test on the six types of Simple Machines.
Many of us also showed tops that we made at home for extra credit. Many students had some really creative tops to share.
And finally in reading we are talking about the story Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride. At the end of the week, we always take a quiz about what we have read.
We have an awesome time in school, especially in our own classroom.
