RICE REPORT

Belleaire, Fairview, Leonard Lawrence, Peter Sarpy, and Twin Ridge Elementary Schools

HAL Goals: 2009-2010

HAL units will extend the grade level core curriculum.

HAL units will be designed to developmentally increase students' ability to work independently, consider the appropriateness of available resources and evaluate the success of their own achievements.

HAL units will infuse fine arts and creative and critical thinking skills into the subject matter being explored.

Whenever possible, opportunity for acceleration in math will be offered to students who demonstrate unusually high mathematical aptitude.

As HAL students progress from third to sixth grade, they will be given increasingly more choice in the topics of study.

Students in each grade level will be encouraged to participate in WordMasters Challenge, a national vocabulary/analogy competition.

HAL teachers will continue to offer support as classroom teachers develop differentiated curriculum alternatives through the use of the IPMP form.

HAL teachers will maintain strong relationships with parents through effective communication and face-to-face activities as opportunities arise.
