
The following skills will be assessed for
your second grade student this year.

Essential Objective Scoring |
Advanced = The objective has been mastered. Your child completely understands this skill and can go beyond.
Proficient = The objective has been mastered.
Progressing = The objective was NOT mastered. Your child will need to continue working on this skill and retake the objective test at another time.
Beginning = The objective was NOT mastered. Your child has little understanding of this skill. Your child will be retaught this skill and will retake the objective test when he/she is better prepared.
Language Arts
| The student uses clear, coherent oral communication in a variety of settings. |
| The student uses writing to express his or her own thoughts and ideas. |
| The student will learn and apply reading skills and strategies to construct meaning. |
Math
| Students will identify, write, and order numbers 100-999. |
| Students will determine the size, quantity and amounts using customary measurement. |
| Students will add two-digit numbers with and without regrouping. |
| Students will subtract two-digit numbers with and without regrouping. |
| Students will add mixed coins up to one dollar. |
| Students will tell time in 5 minute intervals to the hour. |
| Students will identify fractions as part of a whole set. |
Science
| Students understand what plants and animals need to survive and how adaptations help them to live in their habitats. |
| Students understand that fossils help us learn about changes in Earth’s environments. |
| Students understand the properties of matter and the ways matter can change. |
| Students understand that human action can harm or protect natural resources. |
Social Studies
| Students will illustrate different aspects of a community/neighborhood. |
| Students will identify and describe patriotic symbols of our country. |
| Students will describe the qualities of a good citizen. |
| Students will illustrate types of landforms and bodies of water. |
| Students will differentiate between goods and services. |
| Students will identify and illustrate different types of transportation that move goods. |
